The British Museum has taken a step into the metaverse by partnering with The Sandbox. This collaboration, announced on July 27, seeks to bring a wide range of digital collectibles reflecting the museum's collections to the virtual world. Through the partnership, users will be able to explore world history in immersive experiences within The Sandbox platform.
The Sandbox is a virtual world where players can build, own, and monetize their gaming experiences using blockchain technology. The Sandbox uses non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to represent ownership of virtual goods and resources within its ecosystem.
LaCollection, the museum's licensing partner known for digitizing art from leading museums globally, also plays a role in this initiative. Together, they aim to engage new audiences and make the British Museum more accessible. This move will not only enrich the metaverse ecosystem but also provide users with the opportunity to learn more about world history from the comfort of their homes.
In addition to offering digital collectibles, the British Museum plans to establish an immersive space, enabling users to enjoy an interactive experience.
